This animation reviews an independent clinical study evaluating outcomes of the AEON™ surgical stapler in laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy, a Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) procedure. The retrospective, single-center, multi-surgeon study (N=58; AEON™ group 15, comparator stapler group 43) was conducted over two years at a tertiary HPB unit, without financial support from Lexington Medical, Inc., and published in Frontiers in Oncology, April 2023 (Sheen et al.).
AEON™ was associated with lower postoperative day 3 drain lipase, a lower postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) rate, and shorter length of stay. The animation also contrasts AEON™ uniform staple height with the graduated staple height of a comparator device.
