AEON+ Endoscopic Surgical Stapler Medium Handle with Reload

The AEON+™ Endoscopic Manual Surgical Stapler, also known as the AEON+  Endostapler, is built around three core benefits of S3 Engineering™: Smooth Firing, Smooth Articulation, and Superior Staple Formation.

AEON+ reduces firing force by 50% for a smoother, more controlled firing experience, even as tissue thickness increases. Smooth, continuous articulation provides precise positioning and a fluid range of motion, while advanced reload architecture supports a higher rate of properly formed B staples across the tissue range.

A universal handle works with all 36 AEON reload configurations, including the industry’s widest selection of curved-tip reloads and the Short Tip anvil, giving surgeons the versatility and access needed across a broad range of procedures and anatomical spaces.

Breakthrough Engineering in Every Fire with S3 Engineering

Superior Staple Formation

In head-to-head randomized controlled trials, the AEON™ surgical stapler saw less bleeding and drier staple lines. In severe emphysema, a randomized trial reported numerically lower air leak rates with AEON™ Manual versus a powered comparator, 35.3% versus 60%.

Smooth Firing

Smooth Firing is built into every fire. Reduced firing force is always engaged, so the stroke stays controlled from the first staple to the last, delivering consistent staple formation and superior hemostasis in thick and thin tissue alike.

Smooth Articulation

Articulation is driven directly from the handle for smooth, continuous positioning, giving surgeons precise control to reach the target angle without repositioning grip.

Precision You Can Feel

Advanced Reload Architecture

AEON’s forming geometry is built into the reload, not the handle. Every cartridge delivers a fresh, precision-manufactured working surface to the tissue, engineered with a fixed anvil and integrated I-beam assembly for consistent formation, reload after reload.

Complete Reload Menu

36 unique reload configurations across 30mm, 45mm, and 60mm lengths and the full staple height range, giving surgeons the optimal reload for every clinical scenario.

Better Staple Formation in Thick Tissue

Closure force and forming geometry are calibrated for the thicker end of the tissue range, designed to maintain proper B-formation where it’s hardest to achieve, and associated with improved hemostasis and aerostasis.

Stronger Staple Lines

Strength comes from the whole staple line working together. Three rows on each side of the cut mean AEON’s high B-formation rate compounds across every row, not just an average, so the strength holds along the full length of the line.

Uniform Staple Height

Each AEON reload delivers three rows of staples on both sides of the transection, engineered with a uniform closed staple height across each row for consistent tissue compression.

From the Surgeons Who Use AEON

I have found the firing is much smoother and the haptic feedback is second to none, allowing us to feel what sort of tissue we’re dealing with. […] We certainly consider it a superior product — the Rolls Royce for HPB surgeons.

Excellent staple formation with the AEON endostapler throughout thousands of cases. […] The unique […] firing gear allows for slow, controlled firing resulting in the best hemostasis I’ve seen and a low risk for post-operative complications for our patients.

Same Tissue.
Different Results.

AEON accommodates tissue thickness ranging from 0.75mm to 4.0mm, the broadest range among all stapler brands.

Additionally, in bench testing at 4.5mm, AEON line of surgical staplers achieved 88% proper B-formation, compared to 58% for Medtronic and 56% for Ethicon, with the gap widening exactly where it matters most: gastric transection, pancreatic parenchyma, and bronchial stump closure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the AEON+ Manual Endoscopic Surgical Stapler?

The AEON+™ Manual Endoscopic Surgical Stapler is a manually fired device designed to cut and staple soft tissue during minimally invasive procedures.

It features S3 Engineering™, Lexington Medical’s integrated approach to Smooth Firing, Smooth Articulation, and Superior Staple Formation.

Is the AEON surgical stapler FDA-cleared, and where is it manufactured?

AEON™ is an FDA-cleared endoscopic stapling system.

It is designed and manufactured in the United States by Lexington Medical, Inc. in Bedford, Massachusetts.

Some models may not be available in all geographic markets.

What is the difference between a manual and a powered surgical stapler?

A manual stapler is fired directly by the surgeon’s hand. A powered stapler is driven by a motor.

AEON+ uses a gear-driven mechanism, so firing speed remains under direct hand control throughout the fire.

Lexington Medical offers both.

Compare AEON Powered.

Why does the AEON+ manual stapler require less firing force?

AEON+ requires 50% less firing force than the previous-generation AEON Manual Handle.

Lower firing force supports a smoother, more controlled firing experience, particularly in thicker tissue.

The reduced force is active throughout firing and does not require the surgeon to select a separate mode.

How does AEON+ articulation work?

AEON+ uses smooth, continuous external articulation to position the reload against the target anatomy.

Articulation is controlled directly from the handle, allowing the surgeon to adjust the reload without changing grip.

Which surgical stapler performs best in thick tissue?

Proper B-formation becomes harder to maintain as tissue thickness increases.

In internal ex vivo porcine gastric testing at 4.5 mm, AEON achieved an 88% proper B-formation rate.

Medtronic achieved 58%, and Ethicon achieved 56% under the same conditions.

Tissue thickness was measured at 8 g/mm² compression.
Data on file (MC-021020).

The 4.5 mm result is bench data collected beyond AEON’s stated 0.75 mm to 4.0 mm tissue range.

Review the testing methodology and results.

What reloads are compatible with the AEON+ manual handle?

AEON+ is compatible with all AEON reloads.

The menu includes 36 configurations across 30 mm, 45 mm, and 60 mm lengths.
Standard, curved, and Short Tip anvil configurations are available.

Some models may not be available in all geographic markets.

What handle lengths are available for AEON+?

AEON+ is available in three shaft lengths:

  • Short: 60 mm
  • Medium: 160 mm
  • Long: 260 mm

Each handle length is compatible with the full AEON reload menu.

What tissue thicknesses and staple heights does AEON support?

AEON accommodates tissue thicknesses from 0.75 mm to 4.0 mm.

Tissue thickness and staple height are separate measurements.

AEON reloads offer closed staple heights from 0.75 mm to 2.2 mm.

Reload selection should follow the product IFU and the clinical judgment of the surgeon.

What is the AEON Short Tip anvil used for?

The proprietary AEON Short Tip anvil is designed to improve access in confined anatomical spaces.

A shorter distal tip allows the staple line to extend closer to the end of the jaw, with no tissue engagement beyond the staple line.
This is designed to reduce the risk of impacting surrounding tissue during clamping and firing.

Short Tip reloads are available in 30 mm, 45 mm, and 60 mm lengths.

What clinical evidence supports the AEON manual surgical stapler?

Lexington Medical’s clinical evidence library includes peer-reviewed publications covering more than 2,300 patients across AEON systems.

A 60-patient bariatric randomized controlled trial found significantly lower bleeding scores with AEON. Both devices were considered safe and effective. Raftopoulos et al., Obesity Surgery, 2022.
