What happens when stapler innovation doesn’t stand still?
A 2026 prospective randomized trial from University Hospital Basel compared the AEON Endostapler against the Echelon Flex Powered Plus in lung volume reduction surgery for patients with severe lung emphysema. Results showed an air leak incidence of 35.3% versus 60%, median closure time of 14.3 hours versus 93.2 hours, and total air leak volume at 32% of the powered comparator.
